Michigan weather strikes again. Since we still had snow in April, it seems we are getting our showers now. I love a good thunderstorm, but they play havoc on my migraines. By the time I’m home from work, all I want is to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie. Yesterday , I watched A Knight in King Arthur’s Court.

At first I thought the actor who plays Calvin Fuller was Mike Vitar from The Sandlot, but he’s actually Thomas Ian Nicholas from American Pie. I was also surprised to see Kate Winslet as one of the Princesses.
The Story
Calvin Fuller is a teenage baseball player who lacks confidence in himself. He’s too scared to even swing at the ball during a baseball game. This leads the rest of the team to treat him like dirt. When he is back in the dugout, an earthquake creates a whole in the earth, and Calvin falls in and travels true time like Alice in Wonderland.
When he lands, he interrupts the black knight robbing from the king. King Arthur asks to meet the boy, and the king’s guard takes him to the great hall. Lord Belasco accuses Calvin of being in league with the black knight, and challenges him to a battle. Calvin chooses a rock battle, and amplifies Walkman, causing Lord Belasco to run from the great hall.
Calvin is invited to stay on as a guest of King Arthur. He gets to train with Master Kane and learns to ride a horse and joust. He also brings some 20th century to Camelot.
The blacksmith makes him a set of rollerblades to give to Princess Kate, and a mountain bike so they can go on a picnic. Meanwhile, Princess Sarah is being pursued by Lord Belasco in hopes of marrying her and becoming the heir to Camelot.

She turns him down flat. The hand of Princess Sarah will be awarded to the winner of a tournament and she insists that he must enter to have a chance. Instead, he plots with his guards and has Princess Kate kidnapped.
King Arthur regains his confidence and helps Calvin rescue the princess from Merlin’s dungeon. He then opens the tournament to all free men, meaning Master Kane can enter and fight for the love of Princess Sarah. He does well, until Lord Belasco knocks him out, but fails to unseat him from his horse.
Calvin takes his place and his armor and return to battle Lord Belasco. Unfortunately, Lord Belasco knocks him from his horse. Calvin is saved by the Black knight, who is crowned the winner of the tournament. Surprisingly, the black knight is Princess Sarah. She gets to choose her knight, and Calvin gets sent home.
He arrives back at the baseball field before the earthquake and gets another chance at back. This time, he has confidence though, and knocks the ball out of the park.
Opinion
It was a cute movie, although not remotely accurate to the legends. I have read Le Morte d’Arthur. There are no female offspring of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere mentioned, and the round table preceded Merlin’s death.
I would have liked a sequel about Princess Kate learning about life in the 20th century. She would have been amazed by cars and TV.
Check out this movie on Disney+.
